General Referrals

Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic is proud to offer integrative services that complement and enhance conventional veterinary care. We welcome referrals from general practices and specialists who are looking to provide their patients with additional options for managing musculoskeletal dysfunction, post-surgical recovery, chronic disease, palliative/comfort care, and overall wellness.

Our team offers a range of therapies, including acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, manual therapies (such as osteopathy and myofascial release), and therapeutic laser. Our services may benefit patients with complex or chronic conditions, who may not fully respond to conventional treatments alone.

We also support the management of conditions such as neoplasia, cardiac disease, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine imbalances, and immune-mediated conditions through a holistic lens. Our integrative approach can help improve quality of life, support organ function, and, when appropriate, reduce reliance on long-term medications.

We value and respect our partnerships with referring veterinarians, and are committed to working together in the best interest of each patient. You can expect timely, detailed reports and ongoing updates, as we co-manage treatment plans. Our goal is to complement your care with integrative options that support the overall well-being of the patient.

Pain/Mobility Assessment and Rehabilitation Referrals

Pain/Mobility Assessment

Our initial pain and mobility assessments with Dr. Theresa Miceli are booked for 2 hours to ensure we have plenty of time to understand each patient’s unique needs. These appointments include a detailed gait analysis, a full physical examination, and a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment to identify areas of discomfort or restriction.

Dr. Miceli will then begin tailored treatments to help ease pain and improve mobility. Depending on the patient’s condition and comfort level, this may include acupuncture, red/infrared light therapy, PEMF therapy, vibration therapy, myofascial release, and manual adjustments (osteopathy).

We understand that when pain is not yet well-managed, some animals may be sensitive to certain therapies. Dr. Miceli always works at each pet’s pace, adjusting treatments based on their tolerance.

Dr. Miceli will collaborate with the client, and referring veterinary team, to come up with a thoughtful, long-term pain management plan, which may include medications, Chinese herbal support, hydrotherapy referral, class 4 laser therapy, or a customized physiotherapy program. Dr. Miceli also collaborates closely with our Certified Canine Rehabilitation RVT, Penny Radostits, and may refer the patient internally for ongoing rehab and physio care as needed.

Please note that additional diagnostics (such as x-rays or blood work), medications, Chinese herbs, supplements, and class 4 laser therapy are not included in the cost of the initial assessment.

In some cases, the best course of action may ultimately include a referral to an orthopedic surgeon or a neurologist. Dr. Miceli will always guide and support the client through next steps with care.

Rehabilitation Referrals (Canine Only)

Rehabilitation services are provided by Penny Radostits, our Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP). Clients can expect compassionate, hands-on care designed to help their pet move more comfortably and confidently. Penny takes the time to get to know each dog and their unique needs through a thorough assessment of strength, mobility, and overall function.

During appointments, Penny uses a combination of therapeutic exercises to build strength and improve balance, guided stretching to maintain flexibility, and manual therapy to ease stiffness and support joint health. She also offers cold laser therapy to help manage pain and inflammation. To keep patients progressing between visits, Penny provides customized at-home exercise plans through Physiotec—making it easy for clients to stay involved in their dog’s care.

Whether a dog is recovering from injury or surgery, dealing with chronic arthritis or other musculoskeletal disorder, or simply needs help staying strong and active, Penny is here to support their journey!
